Youth Speaks Hawai’i Needs Your Help!

Aloha Youth Speaks Hawai’i family,

Youth Speaks Hawai’i needs your help!  We recently moved into a new workshop, performance, office space at the Creative (1109 Maunakea Street, #215).  The space is amazing, but it lacks a sound system and is barren of furniture. We’re currently having an Indiegogo fundraising campaign to help pay for a PA system.  You’re receiving this email because you were moved at one of our events by the power of youth to speak for themselves.  The mission of Youth Speaks Hawai’i is to promote teen literacy and civic engagement through the performance art of slam poetry, and by contributing to this campaign, you’ll help to create another safe space for youth expression and creative development.  We’ve set a three-week goal to raise the money, and it would be amazing if you contributed and shared the campaign with your social network.  Below is a link!

If you’ve forgotten the power of youth expression, you can check our two of our regular events:
  • 2nd SATurdays Poetry Slam & Open Mic (the second Saturday of the month at the ARTS @ Mark’s Garage 1159 Nu’uanu Ave, from 3pm to 5:30pm, $1 donation cover)
  • Wednesday Writing Workshop (every Wednesday at the ARTS @ Mark’s Garage 1159 Nu’uanu Ave, from 4:30pm to 6pm, FREE for teens, adults welcome to watch respectfully)

You can also check out Team Hawai’i videos from the 2012 Brave New Voices International Youth Slam Poetry Festival on our youtube channel!

Thanks for your continued support of the arts, the youth, and our mission. We hope to see you in our new space soon!
In gratitude,
Sterling Higa
